LAT 10.04 Latin Manuscripts and Paleography

This course is an introduction to the basic skills of Latin paleography, from the scripts of Late Antiquity to the Humanist scripts of the Renaissance. Working closely with manuscriptis in the Dartmouth Collections, supplemented with digital images of the of manuscripts held in other libraries around the world, students will learn to transcribe and translate manuscripts, and to understand them both as tramsitters of texts and as material objects that tell their own stories.
